As Axon’s Supplier Development Engineer, you will be responsible for providing Supplier Quality Development support for all Axon products, including Conducted Electrical Weapons, Cartridges, Counter Drone devices and accessories. You will be a key technical leader responsible for working with suppliers, in cooperation with Axon Design Engineering, Supplier Quality and Supply Chain. You will evaluate and select qualified suppliers. You will lead efforts to measure and improve supplier performance. This work will positively impact the quality of new and existing products. Specifically, you will help reduce PPMs, lower costs related to poor quality, and improve on-time delivery. What You’ll Do
Location: Onsite at our Scottsdale, AZ office
Reports to: Manager, Supplier Quality Development
Direct Reports: N/A
- Audit contract manufacturing partners and suppliers with critical manufacturing & inspection processes, policies and procedures to ensure performance and quality standards conform to established Axon Quality requirements.
- ·Engage in selection and evaluation activities of potential new suppliers (including CM/JDM/ODM) and conduct onsite auditing of the supplier to assess quality and/or process related requirements. Participate in Supplier quote reviews to provide input on process related costs.
- Ensure flow down of Axon Supplier Quality requirements to its supply base.
- Ensure New Product Introduction (NPI) takes place in accordance with criteria and inspection plans set up and managed by Axon Program Management, Design and Quality, and in accordance with Supply Chain purchase order requirements and clauses.
- Lead DFx reviews and product/process qualification by supplier (PPAP/FAIR), monitor supplier process FMEA and production control plan (PCP), and advise continuous improvement collaboration efforts.
- Assess supplier inspection capabilities on-site (IQC/OQC/IPQC). Assist in generating appropriate inspection plans, conduct measurement method evaluation and correlation studies, and assess any inspection and process capability studies provided by suppliers (Cpk, Ppk, Gage R&R)
- Evaluate Axon and supplier engineering drawings, specifications, special processes and related purchasing requirements for processes, product fabrication and inspection plans, and communicate/coordinate acceptance with Axon Design, Manufacturing and Quality.
- Participate in measuring, reporting, and correcting supplier quality performance, control processing system anomalies, and non-conforming processes and products.
- Issue Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs), and Non-Conformance Material Reports (NCMRs) to resolve issues. Review and evaluate supplier RCA and CAPA to assure robustness of identified causes and defined actions.
- If required, participate in creating remedial activities for suppliers displaying low quality performance based on defective PPMs and non-conformance frequencies, in coordination with Axon Supply Chain and Quality.
- Communicate and monitor any implemented corrective action, improvement plans and lessons learnt at the supplier after non-conformance events.
- Provide feedback, data and metrics regarding supplier quality performance level to Operations, Finance, Engineering and Supply Chain.
- Position involves frequent travel and communication across U.S. and Europe time zones.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemistry, Material Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in manufacturing mechanical parts, including cast metal parts, molded rubber or plastic parts, cast ceramic parts, machined and stamped parts, PCBA assembly processes, and final assembly box builds.
- Knowledge of quality management system requirements, including ISO9001, AS9100, IATF16949, or a comparable quality specification.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience conducting first- and second-party audits using ISO9001, AS9100, IATF16949, or a comparable quality management system.
- Ability to read and understand assembly drawings, schematics, block diagrams, and engineering documentation.
- Experience reviewing, evaluating, and approving change notices, including ECRs and ECOs, for specific inspection criteria and evaluation requirements.
- Knowledge of inspection processes for receiving, in-process, and outgoing goods. This includes understanding statistical sampling, measurement techniques for components, and specifications and drawings.
- You must have strong problem-solving, judgment, and decision-making skills. You should also understand quality control tools and methods. This includes knowledge of DOE, PFMEA, Control Plans, Lean Manufacturing concepts, DMAIC, Root Cause Analysis, and 8D Methodology.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Experience working with statistical software, such as Minitab.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and Outlook.
- Ability to travel internationally to Europe and Canada on short notice.
- Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
- Experience with measurement analysis methods, including Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility.
- Experience with PCBAs, plastic injection molding, and electromechanical device assemblies.
- Knowledge of IPC-A-610 or IPC-A-620 and ASME GD&T.
- Experience working in a regulated industry.
- Prior experience as a Supplier Quality Engineer.
- Experience with FATP — Final Assembly, Test and Pack — suppliers.
- Experience traveling to global suppliers.
