Your Impact
As a Sr. Engineer II on the Product Integrity team, you will be a senior technical contributor driving how Axon proves its hardware is ready for the field. In addition to owning validation for the most complex and highest-risk programs across body-worn cameras, TASER energy devices, sensors, and connected hardware, you'll push the team beyond traditional test-and-inspect methods applying AI, machine learning, and modeling/simulation to predict failure modes, optimize test coverage, and cut validation cycle time. This is a hands-on individual contributor role for an expert who sets the technical direction for product integrity methodology and raises the bar for the entire team.
What You'll Do
Location: Onsite at our Phoenix, Deer Valley location
Reports to: Sr. Director, Product Integrity
Direct Reports: None (individual contributor); provides technical leadership and mentorship to Sr. Engineers, Engineers, and Technicians
- Own validation strategy and execution for the technically complex, hardware programs, from requirements through prototype, and production release.
- Design, plan, and execute advanced validation test plans covering functional, environmental (thermal, vibration, ingress, drop/shock), EMC/EMI, reliability, and safety compliance testing.
- Advance the team's testing methodology by introducing AI/ML-driven analysis, predictive modeling, and simulation to identify failure modes earlier and reduce reliance on physical test cycles.
- Build and champion tools and models (e.g., digital twins, accelerated life models, ML-based anomaly detection) that optimize test coverage, prioritize high-value test cases, and shorten validation timelines.
- Support Failure Analysis (FA) and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) on the most complex or ambiguous failures, partnering with Hardware, Firmware, Quality and Manufacturing engineering to drive corrective action.
- Set technical standards for Validation Test Procedures (VTPs), test automation, and data infrastructure across the product integrity organization.
- Partner with Hardware Engineering, Firmware, Manufacturing, Quality, and Regulatory teams to shape test strategy, acceptance criteria, and reliability requirements at the program level.
- Represent Product Integrity in technical reviews with senior engineering and program leadership and influence design decisions using data-driven risk assessments.
- Mentor Sr. Engineers, Engineers, and Technicians on advanced test methods, statistical techniques, and emerging tools.
- Evaluate and pilot new test technologies, instrumentation, and AI/modeling tools, and drive their adoption across the team.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (advanced degree a plus).
- 12+ years of experience in hardware test, validation, or reliability engineering.
- Demonstrated track record leading validation for complex electromechanical or electronic hardware products through mass production.
- Hands-on experience applying AI/ML, statistical modeling, or simulation (e.g., digital twins, reliability/Weibull modeling, DOE, predictive analytics) to optimize test strategy and reduce cycle time.
- Deep expertise in environmental and reliability test methods (e.g., HALT/HASS, vibration, thermal, ingress, drop/shock, EMC) and the standards that govern them (MIL-STD-810, IEC 60529, IEC/EN 62368, ISO, ASTM).
- Strong software/scripting skills (Python or similar) for test automation, data pipelines, and modeling tools.
- Experience leading failure analysis and root-cause investigations on ambiguous, cross-disciplinary hardware issues.
- Excellent communication skills, with a track record of influencing technical direction with senior engineering and program leadership.
- Experience with connected/IoT hardware, wearables, or public safety technology is a plus.
- Six Sigma Black Belt certification a plus.
