Your Impact:
We are seeking a Senior Thermal Simulation Engineer to join our R&D team and contribute to the design, optimization, and enhancement of cutting-edge Axon products.
Position Overview:
The Senior Thermal Simulation Engineer is a key member of Axon’s R&D engineering team, responsible for developing thermal simulation models to support the creation of new products and improve existing ones. This role involves troubleshooting thermal and airflow issues, optimizing component placement, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure the optimal thermal performance of Axon products. The ideal candidate will have expertise in computational fluid dynamics (CFD), thermal analysis, and a deep understanding
of heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and electronics cooling.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and validate CFD and thermal simulation models to assist in the design and enhancement of Axon products, focusing on electronics cooling.
- Recommend design modifications based on steady-state and transient thermal simulation results, optimizing the placement of electronic components for improved thermal performance.
- Apply engineering principles of heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and thermodynamics to establish best practices for designing enclosures and thermal management systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve thermal and airflow-related issues in both new and existing products using empirical data and commercial CFD software (preferably Siemens FloEFD or FloTherm).
- Provide technical guidance and support to the engineering team, assisting in thermal optimization through the use of CFD modeling and experimental data.
- Optimize airflow speed, volume, and flow paths to meet specific customer and component requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design, testing, and reliability, to define input requirements and provide thermal support in electronic component placement.
- Produce detailed thermal simulation reports and experimental test results, presenting findings and design recommendations to stakeholders.
- Assist in developing test plans for thermal validation, including thermo-couple placement, based on simulation data.
- Work closely with external chip manufacturers to gather input data and improve the accuracy of thermal simulation models, balancing accuracy with delivery timelines.
- Develop creative solutions to reduce modeling time while maintaining the balance between speed and accuracy in simulation work.
- Continuously analyze and solve complex thermal issues in a fast-paced and dynamic engineering environment.
What You’ll Bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master's preferred) with at least 6 years of experience in thermal simulations within the consumer electronics industry.
- Proficiency in commercial CFD software (FloEFD or FloTherm preferred).
- Strong foundational knowledge in heat transfer, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and numerical methods (Finite Volume and Finite Element Methods).
- Experience with 3D CAD software (Creo preferred).
- Expertise in advanced engineering analysis techniques such as regression analysis or data visualization.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment, balancing time constraints with the need for precision in thermal simulations.
- Programming skills in scripting languages such as Python or LabVIEW for automation is a plus.
- Hands-on experience with experimental testing for thermal validation and troubleshooting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information to various stakeholders.
- Collaborative team player with a strong focus on quality and innovation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with complex systems and subsystems.
- Familiarity with experimental data gathering and correlation to simulation models.
- Comfortable working in fast-paced, dynamic settings, with the ability to adapt to changing project requirements and timelines.
