The opportunity
The Product Development and Engineering roles are core of Magic Leap’s revolutionary AR capabilities. These highly collaborative teams are responsible for our organization's engineering and technical operations, performing cutting-edge and complex scientific research and development that is 'defined as we build' to create new AR products, features, and marketplaces. Activities include undertaking research, design, development, and implementation activities to improve Magic Leap’s AR products and services; designing, constructing, testing, and operating equipment; ensuring that standards of quality, cost, safety, reliability, timeliness, and performance are met in production processes; interpreting plans, drawings, and specifications; and collaborating across all Magic Leap teams to ensure our AR product and features provide a high-quality, immersive experience, meeting and exceeding our customer’s needs and our business objectives.
As an Equipment Engineer on our Eyepiece Engineering Equipment team, you will work with precision manufacturing equipment used in the production of advanced waveguide optics within an R&D environment. Your responsibilities will include troubleshooting, upgrading, testing, and designing enhancements to this specialized equipment.
What you’ll do
- Perform testing, checkout, and troubleshooting functions by following test procedures, electro/mechanical schematics, diagrams, and written/verbal instructions.
- Execute mechanical and electrical debugging and repair/rework tasks on subassemblies to ensure they meet performance standards.
- Conduct operational tests and fault isolation on systems and equipment to maintain optimal functionality.
- Identify root causes of equipment issues and implement effective fixes to resolve them promptly.
- Support and assist other teams and internal customers proactively, ensuring seamless collaboration and problem-solving.
- Adapt quickly to changes in priorities, demonstrating flexibility and a commitment to meeting team and project goals.
The experience you bring
- 2+ years of professional experience in maintaining and troubleshooting semiconductor and automated manufacturing equipment
- 4 year degree in an engineering discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, etc) or bring equivalent relevant experience in an applicable field. We are most interested in your total experience and professional achievements.
- Demonstrate comfort and proficiency in troubleshooting multidisciplinary problems.
- Understand and troubleshoot PLCs, mechanical systems, fluid systems, servos, power electronics, etc.
- Write simple software scripts to gather data and debug complex equipment.
- Show eagerness to seek out challenges and expand your expertise in new areas.
It’s exciting if you also have
- Experience with vacuum equipment (deposition, etch, etc.)
- Familiarity working in a clean-room environment
