Your Impact
As a Mechanical Engineer II on the Automation Team, you will contribute to the design, build, and deployment of custom, high-speed automated assembly machinery from concept through release. Working closely with NPI, R&D, Manufacturing Engineering, Controls Engineers, and Operations, you will develop mechanical sub-systems, prototype proof-of-principle solutions, and execute hands-on commissioning to deliver reliable automated assembly cells that protect production output and advance Axon’s mission.
What You’ll Do
- 3D Mechanical Design: Design custom mechanical stations, tooling, station layouts, mechanisms, and framing for automated assembly cells using SolidWorks CAD.
- NPI & Prototyping: Partner with R&D and NPI teams to build Proof-of-Principle (PoP) benchtop prototypes and provide DFA feedback during early product development.
- Specification & FDS Contribution: Assist in drafting Functional Design Specifications (FDS), defining station mechanics, sequences, bill of materials (BOMs), and component cost estimates.
- Hands-on Build & Commissioning: Assemble, plumb, align, and commission custom machinery, utilizing technician support when available.
- Equipment Release: Lead design reviews, FAT/SAT executions, and support Production until target OEE baselines are met.
- Documentation: Create and maintain technical documentation packages including CAD drawings, Master BOMs, spare parts lists, PM task plans, and troubleshooting guides.
- Manufacturing Engineering Support: Provide technical support and mechanical problem-solving for complex Mfg Engineering CI projects.
